Estate Planning and Trust Attorneys in Los Angeles County

Gold Law's estate planning and trust attorneys in Los Angeles County work with families in selected communities. Most sit in the San Fernando Valley and along the Ventura County line. Its attorneys draft living trusts, the documents that hold a family's property and name who manages it, along with wills and special needs trusts. They also settle trusts after a death. In court, they handle conservatorships and guardianships, the cases that put one person in charge of an adult's or a child's affairs.

The firm does not claim every part of a county this large. It works where it can give each file the same attention a Camarillo family receives. Matters that need a judge go to the Los Angeles Superior Court, which has its own local rules and filing districts.

Consider one extended family. The parents own a house in Encino. One daughter lives in Camarillo, another raises young children in Santa Clarita, and a son rents in Sherman Oaks. An aunt lives alone in Northridge. Each household needs something different, and every plan has to fit with the others.

The daughter in Camarillo also has a teenage son with autism, and his needs shape the whole family's planning. To ask about your own family, call (805) 388-8800.

How Estate Planning and Trust Attorneys in Los Angeles County Keep One Family's Plans Consistent

Three generations at a dinner table, one family estate planning and trust attorneys in Los Angeles County can plan for together

In this family, the first call comes from the daughter in Camarillo, who signed her own trust with Gold Law a few years ago. Her parents in Encino want the same office to handle their plan. Her siblings then want theirs to match, so no one inherits a document that contradicts another.

Consider what happens when four households use four different lawyers. The parents' trust makes the son successor trustee, the person who takes over the trust at their deaths. The son's own will, however, leaves everything to his partner to manage. Nobody compares the documents until a death forces the question. One office holding every plan catches those conflicts while everyone can still fix them.

The Parents in Encino and What a Los Angeles County Trust Attorney Checks on Their Deeds

The parents own their Encino house and a condominium they rent to a tenant. They signed a trust twenty years ago and believe both properties are in it. A trust attorney's first job is to test that belief against the county record. The deeds show what the county treats as trust property, whatever the trust document lists.

Their house moved into the trust when they signed it. The condominium was bought later, and the purchase deed names the parents as individuals. That gap could send the condominium through probate, the court supervised settlement of an estate. Fixing it now takes a single deed.

The Daughter in Santa Clarita and the Guardian a Los Angeles County Estate Planning Lawyer Helps Her Name

The younger daughter lives in Santa Clarita with her husband and two children under ten. They have life insurance through work, a mortgage and no will. For estate planning and trust attorneys in Los Angeles County, their most important decision comes before any money question. It is who would raise their children if both parents died.

Naming a Guardian and a Trustee in a Santa Clarita Estate Plan

Gold Law's plans for parents in Santa Clarita separate two jobs. The guardian raises the children, while a trustee manages the money left for them. Many couples choose a sibling to raise the children and a more financially experienced relative to handle the funds. A trust for the children also sets the ages and purposes for distributions, such as school or a first home. Without one, a child can take control of an inheritance at a young age.

Where a Los Angeles County Guardianship Case Is Filed

Should a guardianship ever be needed, Probate Code section 2201 points first to the county of the child's residence. The statute leaves room for another county when that serves the child's best interest. Within Los Angeles County, local rules send guardianship, conservatorship, probate and trust cases to the Central District, where the probate departments sit at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse downtown. The exception is for families in the court's North District, which holds court in Lancaster in the Antelope Valley. Gold Law confirms the district from the family's address and handles guardianship nominations and petitions alike.
